Brandon Wegher, RB, Morningside-NAIA – 2015

Former transfer from Iowa and Oklahoma.

All-Star Games: Medal of Honor Bowl.

Positives: Adequate height and bulk for the position. Runs with above-average speed, burst, and lateral quickness. Pretty patient on both inside and outside runs and will wait for lanes to develop. Is also decisive on his cuts and can take advantage of small creases in the line. Pretty quick feet and ability to make quick cuts. Will lower his shoulders into defensive backs and knock them over. Churns through contact on inside runs with adequate power. Pretty agile in the open field with pretty good spin move. Protects the ball with both hands through the line. Above-average upper-body strength. Willing pass protector. Ran for over 2600 yards and nearly 40 touchdowns in 2014 at the NAIA level.

Negatives: Though a patient runner behind the line, he still seems to lack cutback vision on inside runs. Has below-average hands and concentration even on easy passes. Though he’s a willing pass protector, he’s not very strong at it. Needs to run with higher knees through the line to avoid tripping. Had off-field issues at both Iowa and Oklahoma, including domestic assault, public intoxication, and academic ineligibility.

Projection: UDFA.

Jacques Alston, RB/KR, North Carolina Wesleyan-D3, 2015

All-Star Games: National Bowl and D3 Senior Classic.

Positives: Runs with adequate speed and above-average burst. Consistently above-average balance after contact. Pretty good open-field vision and lateral quickness. Willing to finish runs strong on the sidelines despite his size. Accelerates well out of his cuts even in slippery conditions. Stays squared while making moves. Keeps his legs churning after contact. Nice agility and balance in the open field and can spin out of contact – and was able to maintain his quickness even in wet conditions in the D3 Senior Classic.. Though not a strong blocker, he is at least a willing pass blocker who will cut block oncoming rushers. Looked like the best player on the field in both of his all-star games, and was the MVP of the National Bowl.

Negatives: Very short and slight for the position. Isn’t a very tenacious blocker and will give up after one effort. Suspect hands and concentration, and will drop easy passes where he turns upfield. Suspect ball security and hand strength in wet conditions. He isn’t especially strong, and is pretty easy to bring down once you get a hold of him. Below-average vision on kick returns and will push too far into traffic before trying to make a move.

Projection: UDFA. As a Division 3 player, he’s not likely to get drafted. I’ve also heard zero chatter about him as even an undrafted free agent, but, from what I saw in his two all-star games, he deserves to at least be in a camp to get a shot at a roster.

CJ Brown, QB, Maryland – 2015

Was a grad student.

Positives: Though he ran a spread offense in college, he did run some plays from under center. Keeps his head under pressure and can get the ball away at the last second. Will patiently wait for routes to develop. Throws with above-average accuracy in general, and improving accuracy on timing routes. Adequate arm strength. Pretty good throwing mechanics. Knows when to throw the ball away to prevent loss of yards. Above-average speed. Is a determined runner who fights to stay on his feet and keeps his balance after contact. Adequate acceleration and above-average quickness/ability to change directions. Runs with pretty good power. Consistently solid decisions on pitch plays and is pretty good at run fakes. Seems fairly tough, and played through a wrist sprain in 2014.

Negatives: Spread offense with a lot of option plays, but some under-center plays. Was starter before tearing ACL in preseason 2012 and missing season. Concussed in October 2013 and missed several weeks. Left wrist sprain in early 2014 season. Late recognition. Will overthrow on slant patterns. On the move, he shows below-average accuracy and won’t set his feet. His field of vision seems to narrow a lot outside the pocket – missing checkdown receivers. Three-quarters release. Consistently holds the ball too long in the pocket, eyeballing receivers and often not seeing when other receivers are open. Doesn’t sense the rush well. Will often throw it up for grabs in clutch situations and throw off of his back foot. Doesn’t seem to want to slide as a runner.

Projection: UDFA.

Nick Montana, QB, Tulane – 2015

Was a redshirt senior. Son of Joe Montana. Started college at Notre Dame, but transferred to Washington. Transferred from Washington to Mt. San Antonio junior college in 2011. Transferred to Tulane for 2013.

Positives: Runs an up-tempo offense. Above-average accuracy on short patterns. Fairly accurate on the move. Throws with nice touch. Keeps his eyes downfield and often waits until the last-second on the run to throw. Above-average speed. Moves around well in the pocket, and is fairly elusive.

Negatives: Ran a spread offense with a lot of read-option plays, so he may not be ready for an NFL offense. Below-average mechanics and accuracy on the rollout and is also a little indecisive outside of the pocket. Eyeballs receivers a lot, and misses a lot of wide-open reads along the sidelines. Has a three-quarter release and throws with below-average arm strength and velocity – his deep passes tend to die early. Often throws into coverage under pressure. Arrested for underage drinking in 2010.Injured shoulder in late 2013, but started the bowl game. Lost starting job to a freshman in 2014 season.

Projection: UDFA.

Nick Marshall, CB/QB, Auburn – 2015

Has transferred from Georgia to community college to Auburn over his career.

All-Star Games: Senior Bowl.

Positives: Is an athletic quarterback who started college as a cornerback at Georgia, but transferred to community college and became a quarterback before transferring to Auburn in 2013. Throws with above-average deep accuracy and hits receivers in stride down the seam. Above-average arm strength. Runs like a running back, and shows good balance after contact. Not easy to bring down after contact, and can complete passes with defenders draped around him. Consistently makes the first tackler miss. Adequate hand size.

Negatives: Has said he will move to cornerback for the NFL Draft. Slightly below-average height and bulk for the QB position. Makes very risky decisions under pressure in the pocket and will just chuck it up with a defender draped around him. Late to pull the trigger in the red zone. Will double-clutch often. Below-average throwing mechanics on the move, and doesn’t set his feet to throw. Consistently throws off of his back foot. Below-average accuracy on intermediate passes and down the seam. Tends to throw high, especially down the seam. Needs better touch and accuracy on fade routes. Needs to learn when to throw with touch. Below-average ball security technique on the run and will hold the ball away from his body under pressure. Below-average balance making cuts. Injured his knee in September 2013 and missed a couple of weeks. Fined for marijuana possession in July 2014.

Projection: As a quarterback, he’s a potential late-rounder or UDFA with long-term upside.

“Munchie” Benton Legaux, QB, Cincinnati – 2015

Positives: Ran a pro-style system in college, so he may be ready to handle an NFL offense. Throws with adequate arm strength. Consistently above-average anticipation and accuracy on timing routes. Throws with adequate accuracy on the run and on short patterns. Can vary his arm slot without losing accuracy. Nice touch on fade routes. Can improvise on the run, and knows when to slide as a runner.

Negatives: Has a longish delivery with a three-quarter release. Below-average ball security technique on the move and will hold the ball far away from his body. Seems to eyeball receivers and not see defenders in the way. Tore left ACL, PCL and cartilage in September 2013 and missed rest of season and 2014 spring practices. Then aggravated his knee in December 2014 practices and missed the bowl game.

Projection: UDFA.

Cole Stoudt, QB, Clemson – 2015

Son of Cliff Stoudt, former Steelers quarterback.

All-Star Games: NFLPA Game.

Positives: Great height and adequate bulk for the position. Keeps his eyes downfield on the run. Adequate accuracy on short and medium passes. Can find open receivers if given the time. Throws with adequate arm strength. Above-average speed and shows enough lateral quickness to be difficult to bring down in the open field. Willing to dive for extra yards. Nice play fakes.

Negatives: Ran a spread offense, so he may not be ready for a conventional NFL offense. Doesn’t seem to show much escapability or sense of when the pocket collapsing. His delivery is erratic, and it varies from sidearm to three-quarter. Eyeballs receivers pretty hard, and will throw it into coverage – not seeing defenders. Misses opportunities in the red zone over the middle of field by locking onto his outside receivers. Below-average accuracy on the run and on deep passes. Doesn’t consistently step into his throws. Not much anticipation and will wait for receivers to be wide open before throwing it.

Projection: UDFA.

Jameill Showers, QB, Texas-El Paso – 2015

Graduated after the 2012 season and transferred from Texas A&M in February 2013.

All-Star Games: NFLPA Game.

Positives: Very good bulk for the position – built like a fullback. Can step up in the pocket, keep his eyes downfield on the run, and also knows when to throw the ball away on the run. Moves fairly well in the pocket to elude defenders. Throws with above-average arm strength and adequate velocity. Okay accuracy when he has a clean pocket. Above-average speed and is willing to run and lower his shoulder or dive forward for extra yards. Versatile and has spread offense and under-center experience. Is also a fair punter.

Negatives: Below-average height for the position. Hesitant and will hold the ball too long. Will also get happy feet in the pocket. Will also make bad decisions trying to get away from defenders and will run around in the pocket too much. Misses a lot of open reads to the sidelines. Doesn’t set his feet consistently before throwing. Will take chances when he should just check down. Passes seem to wobble when he has to drive it. Locks onto receivers and often forces passes into coverage under pressure. Inconsistent accuracy on intermediate and deep passes. Three-quarter release at times.

Projection: UDFA.

Tyler Murphy, QB, Boston College – 2015

Was a grad student who transferred from Florida in January 2014.

All-Star Games: Medal of Honor Bowl.

Positives: Ran a pro-style offense in college, so he may be more ready to handle an NFL offense. Handles pressure in the pocket well, and is able to step up in the pocket under outside pressure – showing generally good escapability. On the run, he keeps his eyes downfield. Throws with above-average arm strength. His best attributes are as a runner, and he has above-average speed, quickness, and cutback vision. Follows his blockers well downfield and patiently. He can also use a stiff arm like a running back.

Negatives: His height and bulk are slightly below-average for the position, and he seems to be built more like a wide receiver. Very late to pull the trigger at times and will consistently hold the ball too long under pressure, overly dependent on his escapability. Needs to know when to throw the ball away on the run and he will also throw the ball across his body on the run for easy INTs. Will just chuck it downfield under pressure. Has a long throwing motion. Below-average accuracy at all levels of the field. Passes tend to come up short when he throws off of his back foot, which is pretty often. Will also throw high when he steps up in the pocket.

Projection: UDFA. I don’t see an NFL future for him at quarterback, but I think he would make a nice developmental running back prospect.

Andrew Hendrix, QB, Miami-Ohio – 2015

Was a redshirt senior. Transferred from Notre Dame in 2013.

All-Star Games: NFLPA Game.

Positives: Above-average bulk for the position. Throws with a fairly quick release and pretty good anticipation on crossing and out routes. Has adequate accuracy on short patterns and rollouts, and has nice touch on fade passes.

Negatives: Ran a spread offense, so he may not be ready for a conventional NFL offense. Below-average height for the position. Seems to lock onto receivers and miss much better opportunities on fourth down. Will check down even when an outside receiver is obviously open – maybe he made his decision before the snap? Maybe he just locks onto receivers? Doesn’t seem to sense or be able to invade the rush up the middle. Holds the ball too long and consistently and needs to know when to throw the ball away. Will just throw it up under pressure. Throws off of his back foot for no reason. Throws across his body on the run. Below-average velocity and his passes tend to wobble and fall short when he has to drive them. Generally poor deep accuracy, and has a definite tendency to underthrow receivers. Below-average ball security on the move and will hold the ball in one hand under pressure. Below-average speed and quickness.

Projection: UDFA.
