Brandon Wilds, RB, South Carolina – 2016

Postseason Events: NFLPA Bowl and NFL Combine.

Positives: Was a redshirt senior, so he has a lot of experience. For a running back, he has great height and above-average bulk. Very good height for a fullback. Built more like a solid wide receiver. Great hand size. Is a tough runner even when stopped behind the line. Seems to shed arm tackles effortlessly, churning well through contact. He runs with adequate long speed and is also fairly agile and shows a good spin move. Above-average hands and can extend for passes away from his frame fairly well. Adequate ball security technique when going through the line. Fair downfield run blocker. Runs with adequate track speed for the position, and above-average for his size. Above-average vertical leap and broad jump at Combine and pro day – indicating potential for some explosiveness at the next level. Adequate lateral quickness in pro day tests. Above-average ability to change directions with burst in Combine measurements. Adequate upper body strength.

Negatives: Below-average bulk for a fullback. Inconsistent concentration, and will sometimes turn upfield before securing the catch. Okay ball security technique through the line, but may be lacking in strength. Below-average burst. Hurt ankle and missed most of the early part of 2012.  Broken ribs during 2015 season and missed a few weeks.

Projection: Undrafted free agent. For a team looking for a fullback who can also catch the ball, Wilds should fit the bill. But his surprising athleticism for his size may make him an attractive target for a team looking for a power runner portion of a committee approach.

Jakeem Grant, RB/WR/KR, Texas Tech – 2016

Dolphins, Round 6.

Postseason Events: College Gridiron Showcase.

Positives: His size, athleticism, and returner ability remind me of Trindon Holliday. He runs with good track speed and game speed – and very good burst. Above-average lateral quickness and is elusive after the catch. Uses a very quick first step to get away from coverage at the line and would probably be hard to cover either from the slot or as an outside receiver. Hard to locate as a route runner in traffic and also hard to get a hand on once he has the ball in his hand. Runs very balanced and will stay on his feet with contact in the open field despite his lack of size. Above-average lateral quickness in his pro day measurement. Adequate tracking over his inside shoulder. Adequate vertical leap in his pro day measurement. Though he will probably never be able to be much of a blocker due to his size, he is willing.

Negatives: Small size. Below-average hands and consistently drops passes that are definitely catchable. Below-average, inconsistent concentration, and will drop some easy ones – but still make circus catches. Will also jump for passes when he doesn’t need to. Below-average ball security and fumbled a ball without much of a hit in 2014 bowl game. Below-average broad jump at his pro day. Below-average ability to change directions with burst in his pro day measurement.

Pre-Draft Projection: Undrafted free agent. He could fill the need for a returner for some team, and could be used as a weapon on offense if he had better hands and concentration.

Travis Greene, RB/WR, Bowling Green – 2016

Postseason Events: NFLPA Bowl.

Positives: Was a redshirt senior with a lot of experience. Adequate height for the position. He runs with above-average speed, burst, and quickness. Patient behind the line. Above-average open field vision. Gives consistently good effort for extra yards and churns well. Good balance after contact. Fairly strong, and can stiffarm his way out of trouble. As a converted wide receiver, he has above-average hands and can extend pretty well. Though his pass protection is inconsistent, he is strong enough to sustain blocks when he maintains leverage. Protects the ball in the open field even when defenders are trying to strip the ball.

Negatives: Below-average bulk for the position. Though his open-field vision is pretty solid, he has below-average vision behind the line – maybe because he is still transitioning away from being a wide receiver. Too indecisive behind the line, and will hesitate before making a cut – even in short-yardage situations – and doesn’t have much of a jump cut. Runs too upright in goal-line situations. Lacks creativity and will usually just go straight ahead. Suspect balance making cuts, and doesn’t stay squared, limiting his cutback opportunities. Doesn’t keep his feet while making cuts. Seems to be a long strider who has trouble changing directions. Not much of a pass protector, and will get caught flat-footed and lunging at defenders.

Projection: Undrafted free agent. If he can improve on his pass protection skills, he has the receiving skills and athleticism to be a solid third-down back.

Keenan Reynolds, RB/WR/QB, Navy – 2016

Ravens, Round 6.

Postseason Events: Shrine Game.

Positives: Though he was a quarterback in college, he runs like a running back, and scored a ridiculous number of touchdowns over the years. Has above-average speed for the position, and runs with quick feet and above-average burst and lateral quickness. Above-average patience and vision for the cutback. Pretty patient in the open field, but is also decisive as a runner. Has improved his decision-making in short-yardage situations since his early career. He protects the ball through the line and generally takes care of the ball well. Above-average leg drive in short-yardage situations, and will churn through contact well. Also caught a long pass in 2015 bowl game out of the quarterback position. Good vertical leap and adequate broad jump at pro day tests. Adequate upper-body strength.

Negatives: He ran the typical Navy triple-option offense as a quarterback – a position that doesn’t translate well to the NFL. He will almost definitely need to switch to another position in the pros. Is very short and slight for a quarterback and has slightly below-average height and bulk for a running back. Below-average hand size. Below-average ball security on the move and will hold the ball in one hand away from his body. Below-average accuracy on fade routes. Consistently waits until the last minute on pitch plays. Poor decisions as a quarterback on the move, and will consistently throw across his body into coverage. Below-average accuracy on the run. Below-average arm strength. Looks hesitant to throw the ball. Will throw it while fading backwards and short hop passes to his receivers. Will throw it into heavy coverage on deep passes. Will overthrow receivers on screen passes. Back tightness kept him out of Shrine Game.

Pre-Draft Projection: Undrafted free agent. He could have impact like Jerick McKinnon did with Vikings in 2015 – a former college quarterback who converted to running back for the NFL and had a lot of success doing so. But there are also a lot of former college quarterbacks who tried and failed to convert to running back in the pros. Plus, whatever team signs him will have to let him complete his Navy service requirements. But he is definitely worth keeping around.

Kenneth Farrow, RB, Houston – 2016

Chargers, UDFA.

Postseason Events: College Gridiron Showcase.

Positives: Above-average bulk for the position. He is a fairly patient runner with above-average vision and waits for blocks to develop. Fairly quick feet. Above-average ability to change directions and accelerate out of his cuts. Elusive in the open field. Gets low in short-yardage situations and churns very well for extra yards. Good second effort and will finish runs with lowered shoulder and has a nice stiffarm. Maintains his balance well after contact. Okay hands. Willing run blocker who will cut block outside defenders. Very good vertical leap. Above-average lower-body explosiveness in pro day tests. Above-average quickness side to side and when accelerating out of cuts in pro day tests. Above-average upper-body strength.

Negatives: Slightly below-average height for the position. Below-average track speed, and generally below-average game speed and burst. Doesn’t seem to have a second gear. A bit of a hothead. Needs to be more decisive in short yardage situations and just going north-south. Below-average ball security technique and holds the ball too low through the line and through traffic. Injured ankle in November 2015 and missed two games.

Projection: Undrafted free agent.

Marshaun Coprich, RB, Illinois State-FCS – 2016

Postseason Events: NFL Combine.

Positives: Though he lacks size for the position, he is built proportionally. Patient behind the line. Runs pretty suddenly and decisively with above-average burst. Above-average lateral quickness and open field vision and is difficult to get a hold of in the open field. Pretty good second effort. Finishes runs strong and lowers his shoulder into contact. Above-average balance after contact. Okay hands. Above-average track speed. Very good vertical leap. Led the FCS in yards and touchdowns in 2014. Good ability to change directions with burst in pro day tests.

Negatives: Short for the position, with below-average bulk and hand size. Suspect balance making cuts. Maybe runs a little bit top-heavy through the line at times. Below-average broad jump. Poor lateral quickness in pro day tests. Below-average upper body strength. Charged with marijuana distribution in May 2015 and suspended from team but was reinstated immediately after his court date.

Projection: Undrafted free agent.

Andrew Buie, RB, Charlotte – 2016

Graduated from West Virginia and transferred to Charlotte for the 2015 season.

Positives: He runs with adequate speed and burst and has fairly quick feet. Has enough cutback vision to bounce inside runs to the outside. Above-average change-of-direction ability in the open field but tends to just go forward. Slippery and hard to tackle – churning his legs well through contact. Seems decisive on short-yardage runs. Generally above-average hands and can extend. Above-average ball security technique and protects the ball well through the line. Willing and adequate blocker.

Negatives: Runs too upright. Below-average concentration as a receiver and will try to turn up field before securing the catch. Withdrew from school in August 2013 and redshirted 2013, but returned in 2014.

Projection: Undrafted free agent.

Hosey Williams, RB, Cincinnati – 2016

Postseason Events: Tropic Bowl.

Positives: Runs with good body lean. Patient in the backfield and has above-average burst to get through the hole quickly. Fairly quick feet and lateral movement to bounce from hole to hole. Above-average power and churns through contact. Generally above-average hands, and can extend. Willing to lower his shoulder into tacklers at the end of runs. Shows some agility and ability to twist his body to avoid tacklers. Above-average pass protector, who can use leverage and stop a defender in his tracks.

Negatives: Suspect ball security and will hold the ball in one hand going through the line. Doesn’t seem to get much yardage after contact, and tends to fall down, though his balance seem to have improved by his senior season. Sometimes hesitates and gets caught flat footed in the backfield.

Projection: Undrafted free agent.

Michael Gordon, RB, Arkansas State – 2016

Positives: He runs with above-average speed and burst, with above-average acceleration after the catch. He also finishes his runs with power, lowering his shoulders to drive for extra yards. Good effort for extra yards and will also dive over defenders. Runs very tough and sudden and is difficult to bring down one-on-one. Good balance after high contact. Good hands and can extend and adjust well to off-target passes. Pretty good pass protector who will knock defenders down with a strong cut block. Switches hands pretty well to the outside on outside runs.

Negatives: Suspect vision behind the line and in the open field and will miss cutback opportunities or run into tacklers. Needs to be more decisive on outside runs and press the ball downfield.

Projection: Undrafted free agent.

Jordan Canzeri, RB, Iowa – 2016

Positives: Was a redshirt senior with a lot of experience. He runs with above-average speed and quick feet and above-average burst. Though he lacks vision on runs behind the line, his vision and quickness in the open field is better. Keeps his shoulders squared while making moves. When his quarterback is scrambling, he will come back to help. Pretty decisive and doesn’t waste much time behind the line. Keeps his balance well after contact high on his body. Above-average pass protector who maintains his leverage and absorb impact.

Negatives: Below-average vision for cutback lanes behind the line and usually just plows ahead on inside runs. He tends to run too upright, and doesn’t have the leg drive to generate much power. Below-average hands when he has to extend and will bobble. Below-average ball security through traffic and fumbled the ball without a big hit in 2014 bowl game. Tore his ACL in preseason 2012 and redshirted season. Injured right leg in November 2015 and missed unknown time, but was back for the bowl game.

Projection: Undrafted free agent.
