Jerell Adams, TE, South Carolina – 2016

Giants, Round 6.

Postseason Events: Senior Bowl and NFL Combine.

Positives: Good height for the position. Adequate bulk for the position. Above-average hand size. Though his hands looked sub-par in the games I’ve seen him play, they looked better during Senior Bowl practices, so they might be improving. Above-average game speed and acceleration off the line, with good quickness off the line. He showed good track speed for the position at the Combine, so he may improve during games. Can hold the ball with the big hit. Tracks passes fairly well over his outside shoulder. Adequate lower-body explosiveness in Combine drills. Above-average ability to change directions with burst in Combine drills.

Negatives: Inconsistent hands, and tends to body catch, having trouble when he has to extend. Seems to be too easy to knock off balance running his routes. Below-average vertical leap for the position. Below-average upper-body strength.

Pre-Draft Projection: Round 4.

Glenn Gronkowski, FB/TE, Kansas State – 2016

Postseason Events: Senior Bowl and NFL Combine.

Positives: Great height and good bulk for a fullback. He is another in a long line of Gronkowskis trying to reach the NFL, so he has a good bloodline. Adequate hand size. Okay hands and can extend. Pretty solid and effortless run blocker. Consistently pushes his defender back. Keeps a solid base and good leverage. Sets the edge well as an in-line tight end on outside runs. Adequate vertical leap and broad jump for the position. Adequate ability to change directions with burst in Combine drills. Was used as a tight end at the Senior Bowl after being used mostly as a fullback in college.

Negatives: Short and slight for a tight end. Below-average game speed and track speed for the position. Below-average upper body strength. Needs to run with higher knees through the line. Not much explosion after making cuts.

Projection: Round 5. Though he has adequate receiving skills, I think he’ll be used as a fullback/H-back in the NFL rather than as a full-on tight end. His blocking ability should make him a solid contributor.

Ben Braunecker, TE/FB, Harvard-FCS – 2016

Postseason Events: NFLPA Bowl and NFL Combine.

Positives: Adequate bulk for the position. Adequate hand size. Very good hands, and can extend and adjust very well. Fight hard for yards after the catch, and is pretty hard to bring down. Good effort on off target passes and will lay out. Nice body control on off target passes. Above-average concentration on contested passes and when hit is coming. Above-average track speed for the position. Above-average vertical leap and lower body explosiveness in Combine drills. Very good ability to change directions with burst in Combine drills.

Negatives: Slightly below-average height for the position – built more like an H-back or fullback. Below-average upper body strength. Below-average acceleration after the catch.

Projection: Round 5. He looks more like a fullback to me than a tight end, and that might push him down farther in the draft.

Bryce Williams, TE, East Carolina – 2016

Postseason Events: Senior Bowl and NFL Combine.

Positives: Very good height and bulk for the position, with above-average hand size. Above-average hands and can extend fairly well. Tracks passes well over his inside shoulder. Is surprisingly quick off the line for his size. Fights for yards after the catch. Willing to sacrifice his body as a run blocker. Able to change directions with burst pretty quickly.

Negatives: He is a little slow in his routes, with below-average quickness out of his breaks. Has to dial it down a lot to stop his momentum. Needs to get better depth in his routes in the red zone to make sure he caches passes in the end zone. Needs to fight harder for contested passes and go and get it instead of letting the ball get to him. Though he is able to extend well, too many passes get to his body. Inconsistent concentration and will sometimes look up field before securing the pass. Below-average track speed for the position, and slow off the line. Poor vertical leap for the position. Below-average lower body explosiveness in Combine drills. Below-average upper body strength.

Projection: Round 6.

Temarrick Hemingway, TE, South Carolina State-FCS – 2016

Rams, Round 6.

Postseason Events: NFLPA Bowl and NFL Combine.

Positives: Good height for the position. Above-average hand size. Nice acceleration and gets up to speed into or three strides. Good effort for off target passes. Runs generally adequate routes. Above-average track speed and quickness off the line for the position. Very good ability to change directions with burst in Combine drills.

Negatives: Below-average bulk for the position and has a slim build for a tight end. Poor vertical leap for the position. Below-average lower-body explosiveness in Combine drills. Below-average upper-body strength. Below-average hands when he has to extend. Though his routes are adequate, he is a long strider who is a little slow into and out of his breaks and has to dial it down a lot to change course. Below-average tracking over his outside shoulder and has a hard time adjusting to underthrown passes.

Pre-Draft Projection: Round 5.

Beau Sandland, TE, Montana State-FCS – 2016

Panthers, Round 7. Transferred to Miami from junior college in 2013. Then transferred to Montana State for 2015 season.

Postseason Events: NFLPA Bowl and NFL Combine.

Positives: Above-average height and bulk for the position. Great hand size. Generally adequate hands, though he had a lot of trouble in the Combine gauntlet drill. Tracks passes fairly well over either shoulder. Runs with above-average track speed and quickness off the line. Above-average vertical leap. Good lower-body explosiveness in Combine drills. Above-average ability to change directions with burst in Combine drills. Adequate upper-body strength.

Negatives: His trouble in the Combine gauntlet drill may indicate need for work on receiving. Needs to maintain ball security through traffic.

Pre-Draft Projection: Round 6. I haven’t seen him play much, and this projection is based on what I’ve heard of others’ expectations.

Dan Vitale, FB, Northwestern – 2016

Buccaneers, Round 6.

Postseason Events: Senior Bowl and NFL Combine.

Positives: Great height and good bulk for the position. Above-average hand size. Above-average hands and can extend consistently. Above-average body control and can bring in passes while sliding on the ground. Nimble enough to get his feet down on the sidelines. Good awareness of where the first down marker is. Maintains contact well when he drives his defender. Adequate pass protector who can just slide laterally to the right. Above-average track speed for the position and size. Very good vertical leap for the position. Good broad jump for the position. Both indicate a potential for high explosiveness out of the fullback position. Adequate ability to change directions with burst in Combine measures. Very good upper-body strength.

Negatives: Has some trouble bringing in passes farther away from his body. Suspect concentration and will sometimes take his eyes off of easy passes. Will leave his feet as a run blocker when he should just drive forward. Below-average quickness out of his breaks as a route runner.

Pre-Draft Projection: Round 5. He is a dynamic fullback who could fill in as a running back for stretches in some running systems. His receiving ability and athleticism combined with his blocking ability should get him a roster spot.

Henry Krieger Coble, TE, Iowa – 2016

Postseason Events: Senior Bowl.

Positives: Adequate bulk for the position. Adequate hand size. Adequate track and game speed. Generally above-average hands, and can extend well and bring in the one-hand catch. Gets out of his stance pretty quickly at the line to get into his routes. Above-average quickness into and out of his breaks, and accelerates out of his cuts to get separation – though his pro day measurements were very poor in this regard. Finds spots in zone coverage in the middle of the field. Moves pretty well laterally to stay with defenders as a run blocker, and gets good leverage to drive defenders back and maintain his block. Is also an up back on kick return team. Adequate vertical leap in pro day measurements.

Negatives: Below-average height for the position. Occasionally lets passes get to his body. Poor broad jump in pro day measurements. Not very dangerous after the catch. Very weak upper body for the position.

Projection: Round 6.

Pre-Draft Projection: Round 7-undrafted free agent.

Soma Vainuku, FB, USC – 2016

Postseason Events: Shrine Game and NFL Combine.

Positives: Was a redshirt senior. Adequate height for the position and very good bulk for the position. Adequate hand size. Protects the ball with both hands through the line. Is strong enough to fight through arm tackles. Adequate hands and concentration – can adjust to back-shoulder passes. He runs with above-average track speed for his size and for a fullback. Above-average upper body strength for the position.

Negatives: Below-average vision behind the line – he lowers his eyes and will consistently run into his own blockers. Lacks creativity and leg drive as a running back. Inconsistent concentration as a receiver, and he will fight easy passes. Doesn’t get leverage as a pass protector on impact. Below-average track speed for a running back. Below-average vertical leap and poor broad jump for the position, indicating a lack of explosiveness. Poor lateral quickness and below-average ability to change directions with burst in pro day tests.

Projection: Undrafted free agent.
