RB DJ Monroe, Texas

Buccaneers, UDFA. Tex.: Small size. Below-average hand size.

Positives: Versatile weapon who played both WR and RB. Good speed and acceleration. Nimble and quick feet, able to make good cuts. Adequate hands. Very good burst. Above-average change-of-direction ability. Patient and decisive on KR and waits for blocks to develop. Is patient as RB on inside runs and waits for blocks. Willing blocker. Above-average balance after contact.

Negatives: Below-average power and tends to lean instead of churn through contact.

Projection: Is buried on the Buccaneers depth chart, but with probably four RBs ahead of him, he may not stick on the roster. Best chance is to stick as a returner or on another team. No need to draft, but he does have NFL abilities.

RB Kenny Miles, South Carolina

Redskins, UDFA. S. Car.:

Positives: Adequate speed. Above-average power. Breaks arm tackles. Fair balance after contact. Good hands, and can extend well and consistently. Above-average body control and adjusts to errant passes. Adequate cutback vision. Above-average quickness. Good body lean.

Negatives: Below-average ball security and doesn’t hold tightly through the line.

Projection: A very nice fit for Washington’s running game, and will compete with Jawan Jamison, Chris Thompson, Evan Royster and Keiland Williams for backup spot. I think he’s the equal of Jamison and Williams, and a step ahead of Royster. Very much worth a late-round flyer.

RB Kendial Lawrence, Missouri

Cowboys, UDFA. Mo.: Below-average size.

Positives: Above-average burst. Good balance after contact. Fairly patient. Very good speed and overall athleticism. Adequate upper-body strength. Lowers shoulder to gain extra yards and bowls over DBs despite his lack of size. Smooth runner with good spin move. Looks effortless changing directions. Always heading downfield, even when making moves.

Negatives: Suspect balance making cuts.

Projection: Is one of five or six RBs vying for playing time behind DeMarco Murray. At this point, I think he’s the best of the bunch, but with such a long depth chart and months to go before the season, it’s hard to say what happens. Regardless, he has NFL tools and should end up on someone’s roster.

RB Dennis Johnson, Arkansas

Texans, UDFA. Ark.: Very short but proportional bulk.

Positives: Above-average power. Good leg drive and balance. Good burst and is hard to arm tackle. Above-average change-of-direction ability. Adequate speed, upper-body strength and overall athleticism.

Projection: Will compete with fellow rookie George Winn as the third RB on team. On a run-heavy team, he may have some value, especially if either Arian Foster or Ben Tate gets injured. Draft for his RB2 potential.

RB George Winn, Cincinnati

Texans, UDFA. Cincinnati: Adequate size. Great hand size.

Positives: Powerful runner who keeps legs churning after contact. Good body lean. Keeps grinding in short yardage and when hit behind the line. Above-average long speed and adequate burst. Above-average agility. Fair cutback vision. Protects ball through the line. Also has kick coverage experience on special teams. Above-average upper-body strength. Above-average explosiveness in Combine measurements.

Negatives: Strictly a north-south runner who seldom shows any creativity or desire to go away from designed hole. Below-average vision and tends to pinball his way through the line rather than seeing his way through it. Below-average track speed.

Projection: Will compete with fellow rookie Dennis Johnson as the third RB on team. On a run-heavy team, he may have some value, especially if either Arian Foster or Ben Tate gets injured. Draft as an immediate RB5 with RB2 potential.

RB Matthew Tucker, TCU

Eagles, UDFA. TCU: Great height and above-average bulk. Average hand size.

Positives: Good burst, speed, and balance. Very good power. Breaks a lot of tackles. Very good open-field vision. Good patience. Good hands catcher — tracks ball well deep. Keeps legs churning through contact for extra yards. Great leaper. Fair pass blocker. Adequate hands.

Negatives: Needs to protect ball better when he fights for extra yards. Runs a little upright. Injured ankle in early 2012 season kept him out a few games. Not much experience as a receiver out of the backfield. Suspect vision behind the line. Below-average upper-body strength.

Projection: Has a real shot at being LeSean McCoy’s backup ahead of Chris Polk, Bryce Brown, and fellow undrafted rookie Miguel Maysonet. Worth drafting as an RB5 with RB3 potential… maybe RB2 if he ends up starting.

QB Ryan Aplin, Arkansas State

Redskins, UDFA tryout. Ark. St.: Slightly below-average height and below-average bulk. Below-average hand size.

Positives: Knows when to throw balls away. Above-average velocity. Above-average speed and acceleration. Good body lean as a runner. Fair pocket presence. Can step up in pocket to avoid rush. Can throw darts on the run at times. Moves well inside pocket to keep plays alive.

Negatives: Comes from a spread offense and will require pro transition time. Eyeballs receivers consistently. Has a longish, 3/4 release. Has trouble throwing with touch and tends to rocket short passes. Below-average accuracy. Doesn’t sense rush up the middle well. Often throws short. Inconsistent accuracy on the run.

Projection: Will compete with Thaddeus Lewis for third QB spot and should easily beat him. May stick on roster as a developmental prospect and may have enough ability to stick on a roster long term. No need to draft.

QB Sean Renfree, Duke

Falcons, 7th round. Duke: Good size. Average hand size.

Positives: Nice touch on medium passes. Knows when to throw ball away. Adequate accuracy on medium throws. Good play fakes. Adequate speed. Above-average accuracy overall.

Negatives: Comes from a spread offense. Below-average velocity. Injured throwing shoulder late in 2012 and couldn’t work out in early 2013. Doesn’t read deep safety.

Projection: Will battle with Seth Doege for the third QB spot, though either could also unseat Dominique Davis as the backup. All three are tossups, and I would expect them to sign a veteran backup, forcing Doege, Renfree, and Davis to work for the last spot.

QB Dayne Crist, Kansas

Chiefs, UDFA. Kan.: Great size. Great hand size. Transferred from Notre Dame in 2012.

Positives: Good on timing routes. Adequate velocity. Can throw with touch. Fair accuracy on short passes. Adequate speed and athleticism for the size. Can read defenses to find single coverage and also knows how to adjust on the fly.

Negatives: Was starter at Kansas for the first half of 2012, but was replaced by a freshman. Has had injuries in both knees in career. Below-average medium and deep accuracy. Passes tend to sail. Long windup. Below-average arm. Immobile. Eyeballs receivers. Doesn’t move well in pocket and needs to learn to step forward when there’s outside pressure. Below-average speed, quickness and overall athleticism.

Projection: Will compete for an outside chance at the last QB spot with Chase Daniel and Ricky Stanzi — and maybe Tyler Bray, depending on how the team views him. Doesn’t really have NFL abilities, but could stick on some other team’s roster for a while. No need to draft.

QB Nathan Stanley, Southeast Louisiana

Ravens, UDFA. SE La.: Former transfer from Mississippi. Great height, but slightly below-average bulk.

Positives: Fairly quick release. Average speed. Willing to run.

Negatives: Below-average velocity. Below-average arm and deep accuracy. Throws into coverage often. No follow-through on delivery. Doesn’t move well inside pocket under pressure. Throws a wobbly pass. Doesn’t have a nose for the first-down marker. Misses open reads when on the run. Below-average quickness and overall athleticism.

Projection: Will compete with Caleb Hanie for third QB spot, but doesn’t have NFL tools.
