Lasteven McKinney, WR/PR/KR, Southern Illinois-FCS – 2015

All-Star Games: FCS Bowl.

Positives: Runs with above-average speed, lateral quickness, and change-of-direction ability. Runs adequate routes. Shows good body control and adjusts his body well to passes in the air. Okay hands and can extend and adjust to off-target passes. Smart punt-return and kick-return fielding decisions. Is very dangerous in the open field. Doesn’t typically waste much motion on kick returns, and heads straight up the field. Willing downfield blocker.

Negatives: Suspect balance making big cuts. In contrast to his kick returns, he sometimes dances too much on punt returns. Has suspect concentration and drops some easy passes. Not a very strong downfield blocker.

Projection: UDFA.

Christion Jones, WR/KR/PR, Alabama – 2015

Positives: Runs with above-average speed. Has quick feet and uses his quickness to get off the line easily and run crisp routes. Has generally above-average hands. Is a good run blocker with good effort who can maintain blocks. Above-average body control and hand-eye coordination – adjusts to passes fairly well and tracks passes very well.

Negatives: Below-average height and bulk for the position. Below-average concentration on passes when he knows a hit’s coming. Made consistently terrible fielding decisions on punt returns and kick returns throughout his college career – fielding in heavy traffic, bringing the ball out of the end zone at the wrong time, not getting into good position to field punts or kicks, and trying to return kicks after fielding in heavy traffic. He also bobbled a kick in the end zone – then just dropped it and left it behind in his 2014 bowl game – potentially a touchdown for the opposition. Also tends to dance too much on returns – even going backwards at times. Below-average ball security technique. Below-average vision on returns, and will run into contact and push too far into the hole before trying to cut back.

Projection: UDFA.

DeAndrew White, WR/KR, Alabama – 2015

Was a redshirt senior.

Positives: Runs with above-average speed, burst and acceleration. Above-average routes, and is pretty quick into and out of his breaks. Will come back to the quarterback in his routes – getting pretty good separation. Has above-average body control and hand-eye coordination, and tracks passes fairly well over his inside shoulder. Makes smart kick return decisions and recovered a teammate’s inadvertent fumble in their own end zone in 2014 bowl game. Willing and adequate run blocker.

Negatives: Has inconsistent hands, and often lets passes get to his body. Has some trouble extending for fast passes. Tore his ACL in late September 2012 and missed the rest of the season.

Projection: UDFA.

Jake Kumerow, WR, Wisconsin-Whitewater-D3 – 2015

Transferred from University of Illinois.

Positives: Great height and above-average bulk for the position. Runs with adequate speed and above-average lateral quickness/change-of-direction quickness. Runs above-average routes if he’s given enough space to move. Has generally good, quick hands and can extend well in traffic to snag fast passes. Above-average concentration on contested passes and passes where he has to adjust. Above-average hand-eye coordination and tracks passes very well over his outside shoulder. Adequate upper-body strength. Adequate hand size.

Negatives: Below-average ball security and fumbles with small hits at times. Poor vertical leap. He seems to be easy to knock off balance in his routes – maybe due to his relatively slim build?

Projection: UDFA.

Tré McBride, WR/PR/KR, William & Mary-FCS – 2015

All-Star Games: Shrine Game.

Positives: Adequate height and above-average bulk for the position, with a thick, strong build. Adequate game speed for the position and size, and his Pro Day track speed showed he may get faster. Above-average acceleration and quickness, and is able to get good separation on his routes. Has above-average hands and good concentration on contested passes – coming down with them consistently. Good effort and body control on off-target passes. Gets upfield quickly on kick returns. Nimble on sidelines. Runs adequate routes and gets into and out of his breaks quickly. Tracks passes fairly well over his inside shoulder.

Negatives: Below-average hand size. Looks like he has some trouble adjusting his routes for off-target passes.

Projection: Round 3.

Jaxon Shipley, WR/PR, Texas – 2015

Positives: Adequate height and bulk for the position. Runs with adequate speed, quickness, and explosiveness. Has good, quick hands that can snag fast passes. Shows above-average body control and hand-eye coordination, adjusts well to errant passes, and can also catch passes while falling down. Makes generally smart punt return fielding decisions in traffic. Seems willing to go over the middle.

Negatives: Though his lateral quickness seemed fine in games, he showed poor lateral quickness at his Pro Day. Doesn’t get much separation in his routes. Not much of a blocker – is able to get in the way as a downfield blocker but doesn’t initiate contact or drive defenders. Has the occasional lapse in judgment on punt returns, and tried to return one from inside the 10-yard line in 2014 bowl game. Weak upper body and has a harder time with press coverage. Concussion in September 2014, though he didn’t miss any time.

Projection: Round 7.

Good effort for passes out of his reach. Above-average vertical leap. Above-average upper-body strength. Athletic, and is also playing minor-league baseball for Mets.

Negatives: Below-average height for the position. Inconsistent concentration and will drop some easy passes. Injured much of 2012.

Projection: UDFA.

“Lucky” Rodney Whitehead, WR/PR, Florida Atlantic – 2015

Positives: Generally very good hands – can extend very well to snag fast passes and track very well over his outside shoulder. Runs with above-average speed, good acceleration, and good lateral quickness. Concentrates very well on difficult catches when he has to lay out. Above-average upper-body strength. Gives good effort for extra yards after contact. Makes smart fair catch decisions as a punt returner.

Negatives: Has a short and slight frame for the position. His hands are inconsistent, and the ball will get to his body at times. Below-average lower-body strength, and is fairly easy to bring down when to get a hold of him.

Projection: UDFA.

Mario Alford, WR/KR, West Virginia – 2015

Positives: Runs with good speed for the position. Above-average acceleration and ability to stop and start. Above-average open field vision. Shows some ability to go up and catch passes at his highest point. Good acceleration after the catch. Is willing to take a knee on kickoffs.

Negatives: Short and slight for the position. Below-average hands in general and has trouble coming down with passes where he has to extend much – and he tends to let passes get to his body. Questionable concentration on easy passes in the end zone. Dances too much on kicks and punts – will sometimes lose yardage trying to dance around. Looks slightly contact shy. Will hesitate to take the ball out of the end zone at times on kick returns.

Projection: Round 7. His deep speed and return ability should land him on a final roster somewhere, and he should contribute immediately as a kick returner if nothing else.

Has above-average upper-body strength. Solid downfield blocker.

Negatives: Small hand size. Runs with below-average acceleration and speed. Suspect concentration on easy passes. Reportedly showed poor hands and had trouble getting off coverage in Shrine Game practices. Not very quick or explosive. Charged with a DUI in May 2013. Broke his left leg and dislocated left foot ligaments in October 2013 and missed the rest of the season.

Projection: UDFA.
