Chris Swain, FB, Navy – 2016

Postseason Events: Senior Bowl.

Positives: Good height and great bulk for the position. Adequate hand size. Despite his upright running style, he tends to fall forward after contact. Follows his blockers well. Runs with good power and churns consistently very well through contact for extra yards. Consistently able to fight through arm tackles at the line and drag tacklers several yards.

Negatives: Below-average speed. Runs consistently too upright through the line – even in short-yardage situations.

Projection: Undrafted free agent.

Andy Janovich, FB, Nebraska – 2016

Broncos, Round 6.

Postseason Events: NFL Combine.

Positives: Great height and good bulk for the position, with above-average hand size. Adequate game speed and track speed for the position. He keeps his balance pretty well in short-yardage situations and gives second effort for extra yards. Runs with high knees through the line. Nice jump cut at the line. Churns hard through tacklers. Above-average hands and can extend fairly well. Above-average run blocker who will keep his legs moving and push defenders back—or knock them back on impact. Adequate vertical leap and broad jump for the position. Excellent upper-body strength.

Negatives: Below-average ability to change directions with burst in Combine drills. Needs to keep his feet better while pass protecting instead of trying to cut defenders. Not a whole lot of agility and open-field vision. Below-average quickness into his breaks and has to dial it down a lot to change directions.

Pre-Draft Projection: Undrafted free agent.

Derek Watt, FB, Wisconsin – 2016

Chargers, Round 6.

Postseason Events: Shrine Game.

Positives: Was a redshirt senior with plenty of experience. As the brother of JJ Watt, he has a solid NFL bloodline. Great height and above-average bulk for the position, with above-average hand size. Okay hands. Nice jump cut behind the line. Pretty good ball security technique and holds the ball high and tight through the line. Runs with adequate power. Good run blocker with good leverage and can handle impact. Less effective, but still adequate, when he has to slide his feet to maintain blocks in the pocket. Above-average pass protector who maintains leverage well on impact. Adequate track speed and game speed for a fullback. Adequate vertical leap and broad jump for the position. Adequate lateral quickness for the position.

Negatives: Below-average upper-body strength. Strained hamstring in first game of 2013 and was limited for four weeks. Broke his foot in 2014 and missed five games.

Pre-Draft Projection: Undrafted free agent.

Declared early for the 2016 NFL Draft.

Postseason Events: NFL Combine.

Positives: Very good height and above-average bulk for the position. Great hand size. Generally above-average hands, body control, and concentration on passes over the middle where he has to adjust. Not easy to bring down. Above-average downfield blocker. Adequate track speed for the position.

Negatives: Very slow quickness side to side and when accelerating out of cuts in pro day tests, and this also shows in his in-game route running, where he doesn’t accelerate well out of his breaks. Very poor vertical leap and below-average lower body explosiveness in Combine drills. Some lapses in concentration where he will drop passes trying to turn upfield. Also has some trouble extending for low passes.

Though willing, he is generally a below-average run blocker who will leave his feet and lunge at defenders on outside runs when he would do better maintaining his feet and driving through defenders. Struggled with arm injury throughout 2013.

Projection: Undrafted free agent.
