Derek Watt, FB, Wisconsin – 2016

Chargers, Round 6.

Postseason Events: Shrine Game.

Positives: Was a redshirt senior with plenty of experience. As the brother of JJ Watt, he has a solid NFL bloodline. Great height and above-average bulk for the position, with above-average hand size. Okay hands. Nice jump cut behind the line. Pretty good ball security technique and holds the ball high and tight through the line. Runs with adequate power. Good run blocker with good leverage and can handle impact. Less effective, but still adequate, when he has to slide his feet to maintain blocks in the pocket. Above-average pass protector who maintains leverage well on impact. Adequate track speed and game speed for a fullback. Adequate vertical leap and broad jump for the position. Adequate lateral quickness for the position.

Negatives: Below-average upper-body strength. Strained hamstring in first game of 2013 and was limited for four weeks. Broke his foot in 2014 and missed five games.

Pre-Draft Projection: Undrafted free agent.
