Jean Sifrin, TE, Massachusetts – 2015

Junior who has declared for the 2015 NFL draft. Transferred from Asa College to junior college to Massachusetts during his college years.

Positives: Good height for the position. Adequate track speed for the position. Can extend well at times, though inconsistently. Seems pretty precise in his routes.

Negatives: Below-average bulk for the position and height – very slim appearance. Weak upper body. 27 years old and didn’t start college until he was 23. Looks a little slow off the line. Inconsistent hands. Generally poor tracking over outside shoulder.

Projection: UDFA.

Tyler Anderson, FB, Oregon State – 2015

Positives: Adequate hands and body control, and can adjust to passes thrown behind him. Though not a good run blocker, he seems very willing to try to get physical with defenders. Above-average pass blocker and maintains leverage on impact.

Negatives: Undersized for a fullback. Below-average run blocker who seems to not get leverage and can get knocked backwards. Is less likely to complete a catch with a big hit. Injured knee late in 2012 and was limited early in 2013.

Projection: UDFA.

Michael Burton, FB/TE, Rutgers – 2015

Was a redshirt senior.

All-Star Games: Medal of Honor Bowl.

Positives: Has adequate height and good bulk for a fullback. Runs with adequate speed for the position and size, and shows some lateral quickness to stay with quick defenders as a blocker. Okay hands and body control and can adjust slightly to passes thrown behind him. Seems pretty determined as a run blocker and will stay with his defender through the whistle. When he is on the field, the running game will almost always go where he is blocking. Is a willing – though not especially effective – pass protector. Very good upper-body strength.

Negatives: Too short and slight for an H-back or TE. Seems to lose leverage easily upon impact as a pass protector. Runs a little too upright behind the line. Suspect ball security and seems to hold the ball too loosely.

Projection: Round 7. Doesn’t seem exceptional in any area, but his hard work and general competency might land him a roster spot as a special teamer.

AJ Derby, TE, Arkansas – 2015

Junior college transfer in 2013.

All-Star Games: Was on an early Shrine Game roster, but not the final roster.

Positives: Is a versatile athlete who moved from quarterback to tight end in April 2014. Has adequate height and bulk for the position. Runs with above-average speed and changes directions quickly for his size and position.

Negatives: Is inexperienced at the tight end position. Below-average lateral quickness for sliding with defenders as a blocker. Had minor knee surgery in November 2014 and missed a few weeks. Stress fracture found in his left foot in February 2015.

Projection: UDFA.

EJ Bibbs, FB/TE, Iowa State – 2015

Transferred from junior college in 2013.

Positives: Despite a slight lack of height, has adequate bulk for a tight end – but is well built for a fullback. Adequate speed for the position. Above-average lateral quickness. Has above-average hands, and can go up to catch passes at their highest point. Though his concentration on passes in games was inconsistent, it looked better in the gauntlet drill at the Combine. Can extend well for off-target passes – showing good hand-eye coordination. Good concentration on difficult passes. Fairly quick, and gets a lot of yards after the catch. Adequate upper-body strength.

Negatives: Short for a tight end. Inconsistent concentration, and sometimes takes his eye off the ball. Suspect decision-making after the catch, and needs to push the ball downfield near the first down marker. Not very explosive out of his cuts and doesn’t change directions quickly.

Projection: UDFA.

CJ Uzomah, TE, Auburn – 2015

All-Star Games: Senior Bowl and Medal of Honor Bowl.

Positives: Good height and bulk for the position. Runs with above-average long speed. Good hand-eye coordination, and tracks passes very well over his outside shoulder. Is able to extend far from his frame occasionally to reel in off-target passes. Not easy to bring down after the catch. Is an adequate in-line run blocker.

Negatives: Below-average quickness into and out of his breaks, and tends to round off his routes. Needs to keep his feet, and looks like he will give up on plays. Below-average hands overall – while he can extend and make some tough catches, he tends to let passes get to his body. While adequate as a run blocker, he is not very strong at it, and he doesn’t work very hard to get into position as a run blocker.

Projection: Round 7.

Malcolm Johnson, TE, Mississippi State – 2015

Positives: Adequate speed and acceleration. Runs nice routes. Shows above-average hands and coordination and can extend and adjust slightly to passes thrown behind him. Will dive for extra yards. Is an adequate run blocker.

Negatives: Below-average pass blocker who sometimes seems unwilling to take on defenders. Needs to work harder to gain separation on comeback routes. Suspect vertical leap. Took bad hit in 2014 bowl game where his neck bent backwards and (justifiably) looked a little bit contact shy afterwards.

Projection: UDFA.

Alex Welch, TE, Miami-Ohio – 2015

Was a redshirt senior. Former transfer from Notre Dame.

Positives: Okay hands and can extend and adjust a little. Not afraid to go over the middle. Is strong enough to hold the point as an in-line blocker as long as he doesn’t have to use any lateral quickness.

Negatives: Below-average run blocker and pass blocker and has a lot of trouble with outside moves from defensive lineman. Below-average quickness.

Projection: UDFA.

Jeff Heuerman, TE, Ohio State – 2015

Positives: Good height and above-average bulk for the position. Runs with adequate speed and explosiveness. Fair run or pass blocker who can seal the edge and maintain leverage. Is quick enough to meet defenders on the move. Above-average upper-body strength.

Negatives: Has suffered repeated foot injuries. Below-average hands and body control, and has trouble reaching for passes thrown behind him.

Projection: UDFA.

Brian Vogler, TE, Alabama – 2015

Positives: Can extend at times for passes away from his body. Gives good effort for first down after the catch. Gives effort as a blocker – can drive defenders when he gets low enough and keeps at it. Fairly solid downfield blocker on the outside.

Negatives: When run blocking, he lunges at defenders and misses too often, and lacks strength when he does connect. Below-average hands in general and will bobble easy passes. Slower feet and seems to have a bit of a lumbering stride.

Projection: UDFA.
