Malcolm Mitchell, WR/DB, Georgia – 2016

Patriots, Round 4.

Postseason events: NFL Combine and Senior Bowl.

Positives: Great hand size. Runs with above-average speed and quickness. Good acceleration off the line, and uses his quick feet at the line to beat press coverage. Runs adequate routes. Generally good, soft hands and can extend – accepting passes instead of letting them hit his hands. Tracks passes well over both shoulders. Adjusts consistently very well to snag off-target passes thrown behind him and can make difficult one-handed catches. Can hold the ball with the big hit. Above-average open-field vision. Solid downfield blocker. Above-average track speed for the position. Adequate vertical leap for the position. Above-average lower-body explosiveness in Combine drills. Adequate ability to change directions with burst in Combine drills. Adequate upper-body strength. Versatile – started college as a cornerback, and was asked to do drills there at the Combine.

Negatives: Slightly below-average height and bulk for the position. Will consistently slip making big cuts. Though he usually has good hands, he had a lot of lapses during the 2015 bowl game. Looks like he will sometimes mistime his jumps. Tore right knee meniscus and had surgery in Spring 2013, but was ready for open of season. Then tore right ACL in first game of season on teammate’s TD celebration and redshirted the season. Then injured left leg in spring 2014 and missed spring practices. Then had knee surgery in July 2014.

Pre-Draft Projection: Round 4.
