QB Jerrod Johnson, Texas A&M

Eagles, UDFA. Tex. A&M: Great size, though has long arms that tend to slow down release and results in lack of zip on throws. Average speed and explosiveness. Athletic, but not a natural thrower. In Shrine Game practices, reportedly tends to take eyes off downfield when scrambling. Needs some work on pitch plays. Below-average ball security on run. Makes poor decisions under pressure and outside pocket. At NFL Combine, showed cumbersome footwork. Texans have shown interest. Drafted with 1st pick of UFL draft by Hartford.

QB Scott Tolzien, Wisconsin

Chargers, UDFA. Wis.: First signed by Chargers as undrafted free agent after 2011 draft. Released and signed with 49ers. Average size. Below-average speed. Average quickness. Nice touch, with adequate arm strength. Quick setup in pocket, but inaccurate. Suspect pocket presence. Quick 3/4-to-sidearm release. Locks onto receiver too much. Inaccurate on short passes. Very accurate at Pro Day. Fumbled often in Shrine Game. Reportedly was accurate and poised early in Chargers training camp in 2011.

QB Josh Portis, Cal-Pennsylvania

Seahawks, UDFA. Cal. (Pa.): Above-average height. Average bulk. Above-average speed and quickness. Cousin of Clinton Portis. Not very smooth getting back from center. Fairly inaccurate and is high on several throws. Stares down receivers. Bit of a long delivery. Missed reads on wide-open WRs in end zone. Knows when to throw ball away and when to run with it, though doesn’t keep his eyes downfield when on the run. Fumbled snap at NFLPA Game. Very elusive. Lacks touch. At NFL Combine, showed nice deep touch. Reportedly had very good pro day at Pitt. Worked out for Dolphins.

RB Phillip Tanner, Middle Tennessee State

Cowboys, UDFA. Mid. Tenn. St.: Good speed. Good hands. Moves well after catch. Nice spin move. Fairly athletic with nice body control and adjustment to errant passes. Fairly tough to tackle at line, though he runs upright. Broncos, Texans, Chiefs, Jets, Steelers and Cowboys have shown interest. Drafted in 5th round of UFL draft by Hartford.

RB DuJuan Harris, Troy

Jaguars, UDFA. Troy: Good height, but slightly below-average bulk. Makes fast decisions. Good vision and change of direction. Suspect hands. Quick feet and can make people miss. Falls forward. Good balance after minor contact. OK pass blocker. Very good burst and above-average speed. Runs tough and low to ground, which helps him in short yardage. In Eastham Energy Game. Had private workout with Falcons.

RB Thomas Merriwether, Miami-Ohio

Miami (Ohio): Very good balance. Nice burst. Adequate speed with a nice 2nd gear. Broke several long runs in MAC Championship as well as during the season. Very good inside, but can also bounce it outside. In short yardage, uses leverage well — gets low and strong. Tough to bring down and always falls forward. Good run blocker. Fair hands. Similar to Gartrell Johnson and BenJarvus Green-Ellis.

RB Noel Devine, West Virginia

UDFA. W.V.: Small, with slot WR bulk. Cut-and-go runner. Above-average speed and upper-body strength. Great acceleration. Pretty patient — reads blocks well. Nice receiver with soft hands.  Quick enough to bounce from hole to hole. Not much power but is shifty enough that he’s hard to get hold of once he’s in open space. Will never push the pile, though. Injury slowed him in 2010, but he looked back to normal in Senior Bowl. Dances too much in backfield. Willing pass blocker. Questionable ball security and nearly fumbled twice in Senior Bowl. At NFL Combine. Was signed by Eagles but left team abruptly on his own. Eventually landed in CFL.

WR Niles Paul, Nebraska

Redskins, 5th round. Neb.: Average height, but good bulk. Above-average speed, quickness and upper-body strength. Nice tracking and adjustment to off-target passes. Fair routes that improved during camp. OK downfield blocker. Good decisions as PR. Also made good special teams tackle in Senior Bowl game. Injured often in college, and DNP in 2010 Big 12 Championship. All-purpose RB/WR/KR type. Very small hands and had a problem with drops in college. Enters decimated WR corps and could contribute as slot WR. Likely never more than a fantasy WR4.

WR Kris Durham, Georgia

Seahawks, 4th round. Ga.: H-back height, but a little thin for the height. Good effort and hands, though dropped an easy one in the NFLPA Game. Likely to backup Mike Williams and may see a lot of targets due to team’s lack of established WRs. Long-term fantasy WR3 potential, but not unless Williams, Tate, and Butler falter.

WR Cecil Shorts III, Mount Union

Jaguars, 4th round. Mt. Union: Average size. Excellent quickness. Excellent track speed, but average game speed. Runs good routes. Has good concentration and hands in traffic. Good leaping ability and is a willing downfield blocker. Average upper-body strength. In Shrine Game practices, reportedly lacked separation and explosion and had trouble beating press coverage. Also adjusted well and tracked well. Hurt hamstring on Day 3 and DNP in Shrine Game. At NFL Combine. Could be team’s WR2 in the slot, but team’s run emphasis and limited tools make him a fantasy WR6 at best.
