TE Josh Chichester, Louisville

Gigantic 6’8″ height, but H-back bulk.

Positives: Adequate hands. Fair speed and acceleration for size. Very fast track speed for his size. Adequate run blocker. Good effort on errant passes. Very good vertical leap.

Negatives: Seems too tall to adjust to low passes. Has a hard time getting low enough to generate leverage as a blocker.

Projection: 6th round. If he works on his blocking technique and adds some bulk, could be a solid blocker. And with his size, speed, and athleticism, he could make for an excellent intermediate and red-zone target. Pay attention to where he goes and watch his preseason.

RB Jason Ford, Illinois

Texans, UDFA. Ill.: FB size. Above-average hand size.

Positives: Adequate quickness, power, and burst for the size. Good spin move. Surprisingly quick feet for a big back. Reportedly above-average hands in NFLPA Bowl practices and at Pro Day.

Negatives: A little slow to get through line. Been arrested twice for driving with suspended license. Academically ineligible for 2011 bowl game.

Projection: Is probably the Texans’ 4th RB entering camp, and probably won’t contribute much in 2012 if he makes the team. But watch him in preseason and be willing to pick him up if one of their top RBs is injured. Has potential to contribute as part-timer or fill in at FB.

RB Ronnie Weaver, Jr., Central Florida

Good height, but a little slim. Average hand size.

Positives: Good quickness. Fair burst and change-of-direction skills. Fair balance after contact. Reportedly good hands.

Negatives: Holds ball a little low in traffic.

Projection: Undrafted, and likely never more than a bench player, but I need to see more of him.

QB Zac Dickey, Pittsburg State

Slightly below-average size. Former transfer from Oklahoma State.

Negatives: Tends to throw with 3/4 release, but release point is inconsistent. Below-average arm. Overthrows receivers consistently. Slightly long windup. Poor accuracy. Throws off back foot often under minimal pressure. Doesn’t read coverages well at all. Eyeballs receivers.

Positives: Throws with adequate velocity. Adequate speed, quickness and power as a runner. Switches hands well as a runner.

Projection: Undrafted, and looks more like a CFL QB prospect. Not fantasy relevant.

QB Tim Jefferson, Jr., Air Force

Positives: Has more passing skills than expected from an option QB. Throws with adequate velocity and touch. Has slight ability to go through progressions.

Negatives: As a runner, tends to run upright and lacking balance. Strictly ran option offense in college. Long windup. Fairly inaccurate. Below-average arm. Attention limited to one side of field, and tends to stare down receivers. Throws low ball that gets tipped at line often.

Projection: Undrafted. Has military commitments that will limit his ability to sign with a team. May get a contract as a very long-term development project, but not likely to even be fantasy relevant.

QB Josh McGregor, Jacksonville

Slightly below-average height, but adequate bulk. Giants have shown interest. CFL has also shown interest.

Positives: Throws with a fair amount of touch. Accurate enough on short patterns. Adequate speed and acceleration.

Negatives: Throws falling backward even under minimal pressure. Suspect velocity and arm strength. Checks down consistently, and looked to throw short exclusively in Battle of Florida game.

Projection: Undrafted, and looks like more of a CFL prospect than an NFL one.

WR Kevin Hardy, Citadel

Slightly below-average size. Small hands.

Positives: Athletic WR with adequate speed and quickness.

Negatives: Below-average hands — has trouble extending and catching passes away from body.

Projection: Undrafted, but I need to see more of him.

WR LaRon Byrd, Miami

Great size. Adequate hand size. Chiefs and Jets have shown interest.

Positives: Has enough concentration to make the tough catches. Tracks ball well over shoulder. Concentrates even after contact and can extend.

Negatives: Inconsistent hands — makes a circus catch but drops the routine ones. Seems slow. Undisciplined in his routes, and doesn’t get good separation.

Projection: Undrafted, and likely only sticks on roster as a backup.

WR/KR Damaris Johnson, Tulsa

Eagles, UDFA. Tulsa: Small size.

Positives: Good speed and very quick. Good instincts after catch. Effective in traffic. Set NCAA record for career kickoff yards and AP yards in 2010.

Negatives: Below-average upper-body strength and is easy to bring down with any contact. Seems contact-shy going over the middle as a receiver. Suspended for 2011 by team for embezzlement arrest and is entering 2012 draft.

Projection: Should stick on roster as a backup slot WR and effective returner. Fantasy relevant in return-yardage leagues, but strictly deep bench material otherwise.

QB TJ “Taylor” Yates

Texans, 5th round. N. Car.: Above-average size. Below-average speed and explosiveness. Average quickness. 3/4 release. Below-average on timing routes. Slightly inaccurate. Average speed. Consistently poor decisions outside of pocket — threw across body in 2010 bowl game as well as in NFLPA Game for an INT in the red zone.  Not a natural runner. Throws fairly accurately on run. Below-average mechanics — throws falling backwards but also gets set up quickly. In NFLPA Game practices, made better decisions and didn’t force passes and showed good anticipation on timing routes. Has nice velocity when his mechanics are on, but that’s seldom the case. Drew defense offsides 4 times at NFLPA Game. At NFL Combine. Should be team’s QB3 and has eventual QB2 potential, but never a fantasy starter.
