RB Jeff Demps, Florida

Not currently considering pro career, and will instead focus on 2012 Olympics in Track.

Positives: Quick and speedy outside runner. World-class track speed.

Negatives: Easily tackled once defender reaches him. Below-average hands. Not very effective inside. Not a run blocker.

Projection: Undrafted. Will get a camp invite if he’s not in the Olympics. Probably only sticks on a practice squad, but could eventually contribute as a returner.

RB Lennon Creer, Louisiana Tech

Redskins, UDFA. La. Tech: Above-average size. Average hand size. Knee injury and was out for much of 2011. Early-week replacement for Cyrus Gray in Senior Bowl.

Positives: Adequate speed and burst. Adequate upper-body strength. Reportedly runs good routes. Has fair power. Generally reliable hands, and even lined up as slot WR in Shrine Game practices. Willing blocker who can sustain blocks. Fair vision.

Negatives: Below-average change-of-direction skills. Lowers head through line, reducing vision for cuts. Appears to have trouble getting low through the line. When fighting for yards, leans more than churns. Also tends to lower his head when blocking. Suspect balance, often slipping while making cuts.

Projection: Enters a weak RB depth chart on Redskins, and may make team by default. Has similar running skills as Evan Royster, and will likely battle him for playing time, but should win due to his better receiving ability. With Shanahan running the team, you know he could be an off-and-on fantasy producer.

RB Brandon Bolden, Mississippi

Good size and above-average hand size.

Positives: Adequate speed for the size. Good vision and change-of-direction skills. Gets upfield fast after catching passes. Very good burst. Adequate upper-body strength. Reportedly above-average pass blocker.

Projection: 6th round. I haven’t seen enough of him yet, but from what I’ve seen, he should stick on a roster, and has all-around skills and size to be a solid contributor at the next level.

RB Vick Ballard, Mississippi State

Colts, 5th round. Miss. St.: Adequate size. Above-average hand size.

Positives: Keeps balance after contact. Good hands and can extend arms to snag passes. Adequate track speed, but looks faster on film. Above-average quickness. Good vision and picks his way methodically through line. Good burst and fair change of direction skills. Athletic. Above-average acceleration in open field. Fair power and always fights for extra yards. Quick feet. Above-average upper-body strength.

Negatives: Doesn’t always protect ball through line. Overpowered somewhat in Senior Bowl pass protection drills.

Projection: He should be a solid contributor in his first year in a committee with Donald Brown, Darren Evans, and Delone Carter. He needs to work on blocking to be more than just a contributor, though. Draft as a 2012 RB4 with RB3 potential.

RB Mike Ball, Nevada

Junior who has declared for 2012 draft. Dismissed from team in November 2011 for violating team rules. Below-average height but adequate bulk. Above-average hand size.

Positives: Adequate change-of-direction skills. Adequate upper-body strength.

Negatives: Below-average hands.

Projection: Undrafted, but should get a camp invite. Most likely just a bench contributor.

RB Edwin Baker, Michigan State

Chargers, 7th round.  Mich. St.: Junior who has declared for the 2012 draft. Led team in rushing in 2010 with 1200 yards, but split time in 2011. Below-average height, but adequate bulk. Small hands.

Positives: Above-average speed. Adequate upper-body strength. Adequate burst.

Negatives: Has had fumbling problems in the past — likely due to small hands. Below-average change-of-direction skills.

Projection: Probably just camp fodder, though he’s on a thin RB depth chart. At best, just a bench contributor.

QB Patrick Witt, Yale

Good size. Below-average hand size.

Positives: Fair throwing mechanics. Quick release and above-average arm. Adequate velocity. Nice touch. Effective on timing patterns. Former Rhodes scholarship candidate.

Negatives: 3/4 release. Below-average play fakes. Slow decision making. Character red flag — accused of assaulting a woman. Below-average change-of-direction skills and burst as a runner.

Projection: Undrafted. Will probably get invited to a camp, and may make a solid backup somewhere, but won’t likely contribute much over his career.

QB Darron Thomas, Oregon

Cardinals and Steelers, UDFA (Tryout). Ore.: Junior who has declared for 2012 draft. Good size and adequate hand size.

Positives: Very good burst and agility as a runner, but only average speed. Adequate change-of-direction skills.

Negatives: 3/4 release. Looks uncomfortable dropping back from center. Doesn’t set feet on the run and tends to overthrow receivers. Poor arm strength. Eyeballs receivers.

Projection: Probably isn’t talented enough to stick on a team long-term. Right now, his best hope is that the Steelers sign him and make him one of their trio of athletic QBs trying to unseat Charlie Batch as the teams’ 3rd QB: Troy Smith, Jerrod Johnson being the other two. Long-term developmental project regardless.

QB Jordan Jefferson, LSU

Good size. Very good hand size.

Positives: Elite arm strength and can throw with touch. Has excellent athletic ability. Very good change-of-direction ability. Has experience under center.

Negatives: Below-average accuracy at all levels. Eyeballs receivers and usually only reads one side of field. Was suspended for first few games of 2011. Seems indecisive on the run, which negates his natural athletic ability. Doesn’t read coverage well. Doesn’t move well in pocket.

Projection: Round 7 or undrafted. Should latch onto a team as a long-term developmental QB — possibly with Broncos. Doesn’t have the passing skills to make a lasting stay in the NFL, though.

QB Jacory Harris, Miami

Cardinals and Others, UDFA (Tryout). Miami: Adequate height, but a little slim. Above-average hand size.

Positives: Can avoid rush very well. Above-average speed and burst. Durable.

Negatives: Run-first QB. Slightly below-average change-of-direction skills. Doesn’t read coverages well at all. Not much zip on throws. Was starter in 2010, but demoted to backup in 2011. Suspended 1st game for benefits scandal. Under pressure, immediately gets distracted from passing. Below-average accuracy. Looks uncomfortable taking snaps from center.

Projection: Not an NFL-caliber QB. Won’t stick on a team except as a practice squad player.
