QB Darron Thomas, Oregon

Cardinals and Steelers, UDFA (Tryout). Ore.: Junior who has declared for 2012 draft. Good size and adequate hand size.

Positives: Very good burst and agility as a runner, but only average speed. Adequate change-of-direction skills.

Negatives: 3/4 release. Looks uncomfortable dropping back from center. Doesn’t set feet on the run and tends to overthrow receivers. Poor arm strength. Eyeballs receivers.

Projection: Probably isn’t talented enough to stick on a team long-term. Right now, his best hope is that the Steelers sign him and make him one of their trio of athletic QBs trying to unseat Charlie Batch as the teams’ 3rd QB: Troy Smith, Jerrod Johnson being the other two. Long-term developmental project regardless.
