Casey Pierce, TE, Kent State – 2015

Was a redshirt senior.

All-Star Games: Senior Bowl.

Positives: Runs with above-average speed. Shows some quickness and strength after the catch. Above-average concentration and tracking over his outside shoulder. Is nimble enough to get both feet down on sideline passes. Is able to find soft spot in zone coverage, turn around quickly, and present a nice target. Tracks fairly well over his inside shoulder down the seam. Pretty decisive in his routes. Adequate hand size. Is able to extend and track pretty well. Will come down with fast passes. Above-average vertical leap. Above-average downfield blocker.

Negatives: Slightly below-average height and bulk for the position. Below-average upper-body strength. Seems to have a short wingspan for his height. Below-average run blocker – pushed back and looks unwilling to initiate contact at times. Inconsistent hands and will let the ball get to his body too many times. Drifts on his out routes. Doesn’t set up defenders well in single coverage to be able to get past them. Inconsistent hands and concentration – will drop some easy passes that get to his body. Runs a little bit out of control out of his breaks. Doesn’t seem especially strong and had a hard time with physical coverage in Senior Bowl practices.

Projection: Round 5.
