Dylan Thompson, QB, South Carolina – 2015

Was a redshirt senior.

All-Star Games: Shrine Game.

Positives: Adequate height and good bulk for the position. Uses a nice hard count to draw defenders. Throws with adequate arm strength and velocity, with above-average touch on intermediate throws. He keeps his eyes downfield when he is on the run, and is also willing to check down. Adequate hand size.

Negatives: Ran a spread offense with a lot of read-option, so he may not be ready for a conventional NFL offense. He seems indecisive and is consistently slow to pull the trigger. Has below-average pocket presence and also looks uncomfortable outside of the pocket. Doesn’t move around well under pressure and needs to become more aware of where pressure is coming from inside the pocket. Also looks unwilling to run the ball. Below-average decisions outside of the pocket and will throw across his body. Below-average anticipation on timing routes, and below-average accuracy in general – tending to throw high. Eyeballs receivers pretty hard. Misses open reads over middle. Below-average speed.

Projection: UDFA. I don’t expect him to be consistently successful in the NFL.
