TE Tyler Eifert, Notre Dame

Bengals, 1st round. Notre Dame: Good size.

Positives: Good hands. Good effort after the catch. Very good body control. Strong after catch. Holds passes after hits. Very good downfield blocker. Also lines up outside. Good concentration in traffic. Can high-point passes — should be good red-zone target. Above-average routes. Solid run blocker and gives good effort.

Negatives: Though he’s improved as a run blocker, that isn’t his strong suit, and he isn’t overpowering there.

Projection: He joins a team with TEs Jermaine Gresham, Orson Charles, Alex Smith and Richard Quinn — so he’s going to have a hard time getting enough snaps. But this focus on intermediate targets will help QB Andy Dalton out a lot — especially with AJ Green on the outside. You can still draft as a TE2 with TE1 potential, but expect inconsistent production with so many TE targets to go around.
