Joe Southwick, QB, Boise State

Raiders, Tryout. Has too many mechanical and decision-making shortcomings that it will be difficult for him to make an NFL roster.

Positives: Above-average quickness. Is also a fair punter. Okay short accuracy. Above-average accuracy on timing routes. Above-average speed. Moves around fairly well inside the pocket. Fair accuracy on the run. Okay arm strength.

Negatives: Ran a pistol offense and has experience with a spread offense, so he may not be ready for an NFL offense right away. Needs to learn to throw ball away. Longish windup. Suspect ball security on the run. Deep passes tend to sail. Below-average velocity. Below-average medium accuracy. Throws a wobbly pass. A little skittish in the pocket. Eyeballs receivers. Passes tend to die mid-flight. Suspect decisions and throws across body on occasion. Broke ankle in October 2013 and missed around a month. Injured in late 2013 and missed over a month. Suspended from team for 2013 bowl game for unknown team rule violation.

Projection: No need to draft.
