WR Keenan Allen, California

Chargers, 3rd round. Cal.: Good size. Great hand size. Junior who has declared for 2013 NFL Draft.

Positives: Adequate speed. Above-average acceleration. Willing to sacrifice his body a bit for extra yards. Solid routes and gets in and out of breaks cleanly. Above-average concentration on contested passes. Heads upfield quickly after the catch. Uses physicality to get yards after the catch. Above-average vision in the open field. Quick enough to weave through traffic and agile enough to make people miss in the open field. Above-average hands.

Negatives: Will short-arm some passes over the middle. Doesn’t break many tackles. Reportedly failed a drug test at Combine, but details seem iffy. Injured PCL in fall 2012 and still hadn’t completely healed by April 2013.

Projection: Will step in immediately as a starter on Chargers and will compete for targets with Robert Meachem and Vincent Brown and Antonio Gates (when healthy). Draft as WR3 with WR2 eventual upside.
